Linda Hesh is a DC area artist whose work considers
how people interact with each other,
whether it's in the intimate relationship between two human beings,
or in the ways we
marginalize other people through social constructs. |
Desolation Doorknob
Hangers and Mugs
The “Desolation Series” is 8 statements of longing that
are printed on doorknob hangers and coffee mugs. She puts the hangers
on doors in residential and commercial neighborhoods. It’s
as if the person behind the door were desolately calling out as
you walk by. |
The statements could be about
problems in a love affair, feeling dissatisfied at work, longing
for your neighborhood as it was, or even frustration with the government.
This artwork is about any type of relationship that results in a
broken trust, and the repetitious, unhappy confusion we feel as
we try to figure out what is happening. |

WE WANT YOUR ART
As Linda hangs these pieces on doorknobs, she photographs
the doors and the different locations. If you found one of these in your
neighborhood, or would like to buy your own set of 8 (for $25), you can
become part of this group of work. Create you own art by photographing
your installation of the hangers and upload your pictures to the contributors online
gallery. |

Hesh also puts the 8 statements on mugs. These
are done in 2 styles- as large type that shouts as it wraps around
the mug and in small, quiet blue type. She stacks these in piles
of various sizes to put in store windows or people’s kitchens.
These are also for sale, for your own installations or to get a
message out to someone.
